May 19th, 2011 - New York City!

Well today is the big day!  We can't believe it is finally here :) Mark went to get us iced coffees from McDonald's.  Mark Jr. took a few pics of us with our backpacks.  Chuck and Rusty came to pick us up and we were on our way to the airport!

We left Kansas City around 11 am and flew to Chicago-Midway airport.  In Chicago we grabbed lunch and headed to our gate.  Our hour long layover turned into two and a half hourss but it was no big deal.  It went by fast.  I walked the terminal a few times and Mark played on the iPad.

We flew into a small airport on Long Island - Islet - and took a shuttle to the train station.  I noticed/recognized the actor from "Something Borrowed" who plays Dexter.  He was on our shuttle and then also on our Long Island Railways train to the city.  While we were waiting at the train station, I was working up the courage to talk to him but when we got on the train, he actually talked to me first!  He asked me if the train we were on was going to Penn Station.  I asked him if he was the guy from the movie and he asked if I liked it!  He told me Ginnifer Goodwin and John Krasinski were both fun to work with.  He didn't say anything when I asked him if Kate Hudson was nice :)

When we got to Penn Station, I wanted a pic with him but was too scared to ask.  We went one way out the subway and he went the other.  I was disappointed I didn't get my picture.  We came out of the subway and headed to the taxi line and ran into him again so I had to ask him for a pic.  Mark took two pics of us and then we hopped in the taxi to meet our friends, Mike and Caroline Decker.

My first impression of New York was exactly what I thought it would be like.  Loud, crazy, chaotic lights, people and taxis EVERYWHERE!

Mike and Caroline were so sweet to wait and have dinner with us.  We unloaded and walked a couple blocks to one of their favorite places.  We sat outside on the sidewalk and had dinner.  It was about 10pm by the time we sat down to eat.  After dinner, we went back to their tiny, yet adorable apartment to have a glass of wine and then to bed early.
