May 20th, 2011 - New York City!

Our first full day in New York!  We woke up bright and early, as Caroline was getting ready to go to work.  Mark and I walked to Central Park so that I could take a jog through it because that was on my "to do" list.  It was very pretty, different than I had expected.  It is huge!  We didn't even see a 1/4 of it.  I ran around the lake/pond - 1.6 miles to be exact - and Mark waited for me.  After the run, we zigzagged our way home to shower and head out for the day.  We both grabbed a peach on our way back to shower from a fruit stand on the corner.

We headed to the Empire State building and took a few pics.  We didn't go up - it was $20/person and neither of us wanted to go up that badly.  We ate a hot dog from a vendor and headed to the subway to go to the World Trade Center.  We got lost a few times but finally made it.  It had been raining ever since we left the apartment, but believe me, that didn't stop New York.  The ground zero memorial was still under construction.  It was very unreal being there.  It was so sad and so crazy to think about what happened there.  Going there was something Mark really wanted to do but after seeing it, I'm very glad we went too.

We walked a couple more blocks to a Starbucks (we just HAD to have Starbucks in NYC) to sit for a bit and warm up.  Then we were on our way to the Seinfeld cafe - Tom's Restaurant.

The rain never stopped as we headed to Tom's Restaurant.  Mark's shoes were getting pretty wet and he only had on khaki shorts and a t-shirt.  My flats were completely wet and had rubbed blisters on my feet.  We had walked so much that day through, my feet had become numb or immune to the discomfort.

We made it to Tom's Restaurant which is the diner they use in the TV show Seinfeld.  They actually only use the outside of the restaurant for the pics on the show.  We split a turkey wrap and a delicious chocolate milkshake.  We got back on the subway for a couple of stops and then got off and walked back to the Decker's through Central Park.

We changed to go to dinner with the Deckers, took the subway there, walked a couple blocks, and stopped at a pub for beers.  Decker really liked the pub we went to.  They only serve light beer and dark beer.  They come in little mugs and serve you two at a time.  We walked on to dinner, put our name in and walked across the street to get a drink.  We had a drink, dinner and then took the subway to Times Square.  Times Square was very busy and completely lit up by the neon signs.  Very overwhelming but in a neat way.  We walked a bit and took a taxi back to the apartment.
