May 22nd, 2011 - London!

We arrive in London at 11 am local time, but it felt like 5 am to us.  Neither of us were jet-lagged much, if at all.  We bought oyster cards at the airport, which are like debit cards for the "tube".  We took the tube or the underground to an area near our hotel.  We were nervous, tired and a little lost at first.  A nice woman helped us/pointed us in the right direction.  We walked probably a mile or two and found the hotel!  We checked in and then headed back out to get lunch.  We ate at an Italian cafe and sat at a table on the sidewalk.  We walked to Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens.  We tried to rent bikes but couldn't figure it out.  We walked all around Hyde Park.  We saw Kensington Palace, it's gardens, the large pond, memorial to King Albert and the Princess Diana Memorial fountain.  We walked back to the hotel and Mark napped for a bit while I wrote postcards.  We walked to a local pub for dinner.  Mark ate steak pie (like a chicken pot pie) and drank London beer.

After dinner, we walked around the neighborhood near our hotel.  We came across another bike rental hub.  They are unmanned and just have about 25 bikes locked up nearby.  I tried swiping my credit card again and it worked the first time - not sure what the problem was earlier in Hyde Park.  We rode around the bikes for a while that evening and then returned them.
